BzzBzz (2021) is an art installation Casper's personal relationship with my smartphone used to visualize how we relate to our cell phones.
BzzBzz converts the output of Casper's phone into audio-visual outputs within an art installation. If Casper gets a notification on my cell phone and it vibrates, so will a vibration motor attached to a metal wire. If Casper opens his phone and the screen turns on, so will a lightbox within the installation. These systems will always work as long as Casper's phone is on, no matter where Casper is or what time it is, BzzBzz visualizes his phone usage.
Is it a big deal when you use your phone too often or not 'enough'? What does it mean when someone is constantly being notified or just barely getting notifications? These are things we can judge the people around us on these days, are they social enough because of their phone?
By disclosing when Casper is on my phone (light) or when someone is messaging Casper (vibration), Casper wants to emphasize how personal our relationship with our phones really is and put himself in front of the judgment of others. During this experiment, he discovered that his relationship with my cell phone is more intimate than he previously thought. It feels strange to know that someone else can see when you are using your phone, especially in those moments when you are browsing Reddit by yourself at 3 a.m....

BzzBzz (2021) is een kunstinstallatie Casper’s persoonlijke relatie met mijn smartphone gebruikt om te visualiseren hoe wij ons verhouden tot onze mobiele telefoons.
BzzBzz zet de output van Casper’s telefoon om in audio-visuele outputs binnen een kunstinstallatie. Als Casper een notificatie krijg op mijn mobiele telefoon en hij trilt, dan zal een vibratiemotor die aan een metalen draad is bevestigd dat ook doen. Als Casper zijn telefoon open en het scherm aangaat, dan zal dat ook gebeuren met een lichtbak in de installatie. Deze systemen zullen altijd werken zolang Casper’s telefoon aan staat, het maakt niet uit waar Casper is of hoe laat het is, BzzBzz visualiseert zijn telefoongebruik.
Is het een erg wanneer je je telefoon te vaak of niet 'genoeg' gebruikt? Wat betekent het als iemand constant wordt bericht of juist amper notificaties krijgt? Dit zijn dingen waar we tegenwoordig de mensen om ons heen op kunnen beoordelen, zijn ze wel sociaal genoeg door hun telefoon?
Door openbaar te maken wanneer Casper op mijn telefoon zit (licht) of wanneer iemand Casper bericht (trilling) wil Casper benadrukken hoe persoonlijk onze relatie met onze telefoons werkelijk is en zichzelf voor het oordeel van anderen plaatsen. Tijdens dit experiment ontdekte hij dat zijn relatie met mijn mobiele telefoon intiemer is dan hij eerder dacht. Het voelt vreemd om te weten dat iemand anders kan zien wanneer je je telefoon gebruikt, vooral op die momenten dat je in je eentje Reddit aan het doorbladeren bent om 3 uur 's nachts...
